NOTE: These standards are now obsolete! |
| Please refer to the ASP Code of Professional Conduct for the current standards. |
Industry Member Standards |
|
Note: Developers must follow these standards instead. Additionally, all members may optionally include the ASP Ombudsman Statement in their documentation, catalogs, and web sites.
These standards from the previous WA corporation have been referred to the Membership Standards Committee on 2/12/2005 for possible inclusion in a single document which applies to all ASP members.

- The ASP defines a "Shareware Industry Member" as someone (an individual, company or other organization) that distributes shareware (trial) copies of software. This would include (but not be limited to) diskette vendors, CD-ROM distributors, WWW/FTP sites, and User Groups. To apply as a Shareware Industry Member , submit the following:
- The completed application form for membership
- 1st year's dues
- Sample materials, mockups, or similar information illustrating how you do business.
- On-line applicants should provide account/ password information or other connect information to permit evaluation.
- ASP Shareware Industry Members must meet the following requirements:
- Clearly explain the "shareware" concept to customers prior to the sale of evaluation versions, in a manner appropriate to your means of distribution.
- Any Shareware Industry Member, who mentions the ASP on their web page or displays the ASP logo in any way, must include a link to the Ombudsman statement on the ASP's web page. If the ASP is mentioned, a link to http://www.asp-shareware.org/ is also requested. If no mention of the ASP is made, these members must still abide by the Office of the Ombudsman.
- Comply with all author distribution requirements; author requests to cease distribution, or distribute a newer version of an existing program should be honored with 30 days of receipt if possible and within 90 days in any event.
- Remain current in payment of dues and keep the ASP office advised of any address/phone changes. Abide by industry standards of professionalism and conduct as periodically promulgated by the Board of Directors in consultation with the membership.
